History Of

Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

Lord Shiva was greatly adored by King Chandrasena of Ujjain, who often prayed to him. He once heard Shikhar, a farmer's son, praying. The child wanted to pray with the king, but the palace guards chased him to the outskirts of Ujjain. The little boy then overheard Ujjayan's rival kings Ripudamana and Simhaditya preparing to attack the city. He immediately began to plead with the Lord to save his city. After learning this information, the priest Vikas started worshiping Shiva on the banks of the Kshipra river at the request of his sons. With the help of the demon Dushan, Ripudaman and Sinhaditya successfully raided Ujjain, looting the city and attacking Lord Shiva's followers.

Lord Shiva appeared in response to the cries of the priest and his followers and defeated Ripudaman and Simhaditya. He vowed to remain in Ujjain with orders to rise and rise to protect the city and its followers. Since then, the Lord has been enshrined in the Linga in His Mahakal form, and it is believed that whoever worships the Linga will be saved from death and disease and blessed by the Lord for the rest of their lives.
